Cover Reveal - The Ex-Wives by Jenna Kernan
The problem with a book cover is you never know what you are going to get. Crossing your fingers doesn’t always help and the quality of the cover is key to drawing readers, especially new readers to your story.
At a previous publisher, I filled out questionnaires and detailed artist fact sheets. Now I just burn sage as my editor sits in meetings with marketing going over concepts. Less control is nerve-wracking, but it turns out that the publisher often knows better than the writer what will appeal to the market.
I believe the cover for The Ex-Wives is called a concept cover as it contains a few ordinary items that, when taken together with the title and color scheme scream domestic thriller. At least I hope so.
The finished cover for The Ex-Wives is a stunner with the bold colors and the wedding rings. At first, I didn’t notice that there are two rings on one side of the tear, signifying the man’s ex-wives and one ring on the opposite side, indicating the new wife. The tear also looks like a knife blade slicing between the rings, tearing the fabric of the union.
Having the tag line also divided is very clever. On the left it reads: Their daughters went missing. And on the right, it reads: Is yours next? Speaking of the text, did you see that the only word that seems to be revealed by the tear is the word EX and that is partially hidden behind the ragged edge?
Finally, it can never be a bad thing to have your name in yellow against a red background. I’ve never had a red cover before and I’m really looking forward to seeing what readers think of this cover!
