Out and About with Orchids
This week, I took a mental health day and went to visit the garden on the opening day of Selby Garden’s Orchid show.
This year’s show is titled: Blossoms of Asia. The greenhouse is awash in color and interesting water features, bamboo structures, paper screens and many asymmetrical flower arrangements featuring orchids. The greenhouse has been transformed into several rooms, each creating a picturesque vignette.
I have visited Japan, and was please to see the familiar moving water feature made of bamboo, the low table on tatami mats and the bonsai featured. They also had a rock garden with raked zen pattern.
In the museum house there is a wonderful display of orchids painted on silk and some exquisite Asian baskets of various sizes and shapes.
I hope you will make a trip to a garden. It does wonders for the soul.
